+ INDEX feat SPHERIX / APRIL 17

PRESS RELEASE

The next installment of INDEX hosts one of Australia’s most recognizable DJ/Producers in the Dubstep scene, hailing from Melbourne – SPHERIX. One of a handful of producers to carve a niche for himself with his deep productions, Spherix’s music alternates between the various styles that have influenced him as a producer, that of Minimal and Dub Techno as well as early Tech Step, Drum and Bass. Following his ground breaking releases on Tube 10, Bare Dubs and Subcontinental Dub, and with forthcoming releases on leading UK labels Immerse and 3.5 Recordings, Spherix is a man leading the way for deep and minimal Dubstep production.

Joining Spherix for the April edition of INDEX is internationally renown DJ/Producer MARK PRITCHARD. With his first set back in Australia after his 3 month European tour in support of his hugely successful album for the Warp Record label, ‘When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence’, Mark is sure to play the freshest and newest beats from across the globe. Also known for his work in the 90’s as Global Communication with Tom Middleton, Mark’s music is some of the most acclaimed in electronic music.

Also joining the INDEX line-up is the mighty PHIL SMART. Over the last 20 years Phil has been renowned for playing the newest sounds and forward thinking electronic music. Voted Australian DJ Of The Year at the National Dance Music Awards in 2000 and twice voted into DJ Magazine's prestigious list of the worlds Top 100 DJs, Phil is currently playing and making various styles including minimal and warm techno, deep house and techouse. Phil’s catalogue of music is sure to compliment the INDEX concept.

To complete the INDEX roster for April 17th we have the diverse sounds of WESTERNSYNTHETICS, head of Subcontinental Dub Records as well as residents Lorna Clarkson and the seductive vocal styles of the Steve Spacek.

SPHERIX

SPHERIX, a.k.a. Josh Lamaro is one of Australia’s rising stars on the Dubstep circuit. Hailing from Melbourne, Josh has a unique sound, influenced heavily by minimal and dub techno. He has had numerous releases on respected international labels including, Tube 10, Bare Dubs, Subcontinental Dub and On The Edge Records, as well as forthcoming releases on Immerse and 3.5 Recordings. After his early experiments with the piano and sampling, Josh’s first foray into electronic music production was with Drum and Bass in the late 1990’s. Influenced by the stripped down aesthetic of the Tech-Step style, Josh drew influence from the early productions of Ed Rush and Optical and later began incorporating his early love of minimal techno, dub and hip hop into his production which informed where his sound is today. What resulted was a much slower and more inclusive sound than his early productions which eventually began being associated with what had become known as Dubstep.

His early collaborations with London Dubstep producer Luke Envoy, opened the way for a wealth of ideas being developed concurrently in the Dubstep scene in London. This experience and exposure to some of the biggest producers in Dubstep helped polish the ideas and attitudes Josh’s music was looking to address. Over the following few years the Spherix sound has developed as a distinctive one, clearly expressing all the early influences of Minimal and Dub Techno, as well as Drum and Bass into the one unique sound.
